讲座摘要:
In the centenary year (2015) of the completion of General Relativity (GR), Gravitational Waves (GWs) were first detected. On February 11, 2016, LIGO Scientific Collaboration and Virgo Collaboration announced their observational discovery of Gravitational Waves GW160914 on September 14, 2015 from a stellar-size Binary Black Hole (BBH) Merger about 1.3 billion years away. This not only marks the most important experimental progress in gravitation, but also sets a paramount landmark in human research to explore the universe. In this talk, we discuss the optical methods for detecting GWs, review the first detection with historical background and present an outlook on the GW research based on this first detection. GW detection and GW phenomenology are becoming solid disciplines of physics and astronomy. Sensitivity improvement of a few orders to several orders of magnitude over all frequency bands are expected in the next hundred years. We briefly review the achieved sensitivities together with a century outlook over all bands of GW detection.
